The Day-Date is the one that spells the day out

Every other Rolex shows a date. Only the Day-Date carries the full day of the week in an arc at 12 o'clock, and that window is where clones fail most often. The text has to be centred in the aperture, correctly kerned, and printed in the right typeface — and on a genuine piece the disc changes over instantly at midnight rather than creeping over an hour.

The second identifier is the President bracelet: three semi-circular links per row, with a concealed Crownclasp. The links must be solid and the taper continuous; hollow links rattle audibly, which no President ever should.

What to check before you buy

Open the day window and read it at an angle — off-centre text is the giveaway. Then feel the bracelet weight: the Day-Date is only made in precious metal, so a correct clone is noticeably heavy.
