Ballon Bleu: the crown guard is the design

Everything about the Ballon Bleu follows from one decision — the sapphire cabochon crown is set into a guard that intrudes into the dial, so the numerals curve around it. On a genuine piece the guard flows out of the case as one continuous surface, and the dial's Roman numerals are correctly distorted around the intrusion. Clones frequently get the numerals right but the guard wrong, or vice versa.
