Nautilus: the case shape people get wrong

The Nautilus case is often described as a porthole, and the two "ears" at 3 and 9 are hinges in origin. On a genuine piece those ears are integral to the case and taper into the case band with a continuous polished chamfer. A poor clone leaves a visible seam there, or makes the ears too thick.

The dial is the second tell. That horizontal embossed pattern must be machined with real depth and a gradient from blue-black at the edge to lighter in the centre. Printed stripes look flat immediately under angled light.

Bracelet and thickness

The integrated bracelet has to taper continuously with no step at the end link, and the whole watch should be strikingly thin — a Nautilus clone that feels chunky has already failed. Our Nautilus super clones cover 5711, 5712, 5713 and 5980 references in 40–41 mm steel, rose gold and two-tone.
