As one of the most iconic luxury watch brands in the world, Rolex continues to set the standard for horological excellence.
The History of the Rolex Submariner
The Rolex Submariner is the most influential watch ever created. Here’s how it evolved from a tool watch to a cultural icon β and why our super clone honors that legacy.
1953: The Birth (Ref. 6204)
Launched at the Basel Watch Fair, the original Submariner was one of the first watches rated to 100 metres. The 37mm case with its rotating bezel defined the modern dive watch template.
1954-1959: Crown Guards Arrive
The Ref. 6538 (“James Bond Submariner”) appeared in the early Bond films. Then the Ref. 5512 introduced crown guards, making the Submariner more recognisable still.
1965: The Submariner Date (Ref. 1680)
Rolex added a date window with Cyclops magnifier, creating the Submariner Date β the configuration our super clone is based on.
1979: Sapphire Crystal (Ref. 16800)
Replacing the acrylic crystal with sapphire brought modern scratch resistance. Water resistance increased to 300 metres.
2003: Maxi Case (Ref. 16610LV)
The “Kermit” with its green bezel insert celebrated the Sub’s 50th anniversary. The case grew slightly and lugs became chunkier.
2010: Ceramic Era (Ref. 116610LN)
Cerachrom ceramic bezel, Glidelock bracelet extension, and the calibre 3135 movement. This was the first truly modern Submariner.
2020: 41mm (Ref. 126610LN)
The current Submariner grew to 41mm with the calibre 3235 (70-hour power reserve). This is the reference our super clone Rolex Submariner is based on.
